THE ARTIST SKETCHBOOK: WHERE IDEAS BEGIN

An art sketchbook is one of the most important but underrated tools in an artist’s toolkit. Some of its many benefits: affordable and easily goes anywhere with you; keeps images and inspiration together safe in one place; very personal and private, thus releasing creative imagination and experimentation without judgement; sharpens your skills, chronicles your artistic growth, and reminds you of ideas that would otherwise have been lost. But most of all, it gives you a particular, unique awareness of the world around you that other endeavors cannot. 

This course will explain & demonstrate the variety of ways a visual journal can be used. Each week, we will focus on different topics such as distinctive ways to depict objects or scenes, copy other artists, experiment with new media, develop compositions with value or thumbnail deigns, etc. Daily sketching in between classes will be STRONGLY encouraged! Directions will be sent when class is confirmed to move forward.
