Student Work from Portrait Workshop with Joseph Kameen

Creel-Harison Gallery

In 2021, Westobou Gallery created a year-long Artist in Residence program for artists and creatives in the Augusta area. The Westobou Artist in Residence program awards free studio space to an emerging or mid-career Augusta-based visual artists for one year at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art (GHIA). The program provides a stipend for research, tools and supplies to build a body of work for an exhibition at Westobou Gallery. In collaboration with the GHIA, the artist in residence will teach a year-long workshop series to community members.

Westobou's 2021 Artist in Residence, Joseph Kameen, taught a four-week portrait painting workshop at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in August and the drawing studies and paintings by his students will be on display in the Creel Harison Gallery at GHIA until April 8, 2022. Additionally, the body of work created by Kameen in the GHIA studio will be on view at the Westbou Gallery, February 4-April 9, 2022. Westobou Gallery will host an artist talk at 5:00 and wine and cheese reception from 6-8pm (1129 Broad Street). Gertrude Herbert will also be open Friday, February 4, 2022 from 6-8pm to view the student work.
