Main Gallery: GRU Art Department Faculty Exhibition

MAIN GALLERY

A selection of photographs, prints, paintings, and sculpture by the Georgia Regents University Department of Art faculty members are included in the fifth Biennial Georgia Regents University Art Faculty Exhibition on view in the Main Gallery of Ware’s Folly November 6 – December 12, 2014.

Returning once again to the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, this biennialexhibitionhighlights the prominent artists and educators on staff in the university’s Art Department and features a compilation of original works in a variety of media. The works demonstrate a striking range of perspectives and techniques, illustrating the depth and talent of these professional art educators and their value to the community. The exhibit also serves as an extraordinary setting for the Institute’s annual fundraiser, Oysters on Telfair, which will take place the evening of November 6, 2014 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.  The event features a silent art auction of works from local artists, music by the Crosstie Walkers, Cajun fare by Tastefully Yours, open bar by Whitehorse Wine and Spirits and an array of wonderful raffle items. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online at oysters2014.tixclix.com or by calling the Institute at 706.722.5495.

Additionally, this year’s exhibition will include artwork by Georgia Regents University’s President, Dr. Ricardo Azziz. As the son of an anthropologist and a nuclear physicist, both with strong artistic interests, Azziz has been exposed to multiple contrasts throughout his life.  Dr. Azziz has been creating pen and ink works since 1976 and his art is strongly influenced by the surrealist perspective, in combination with his medical experience and childhood.

The relationship between the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and the Department of Art at Georgia Regents University, formerly Augusta State University, has long been mutually beneficial, and the Institute greatly values the combined efforts the school has made to develop visual arts appreciation and quality throughout the greater Augusta area.
