Students will learn how to select and modify reference photos for painting. They will also learn to avoid over-relying on their selected references, because photos often distort values, hues, and perspective. The students will practice their color-mixing skills and their portrayal of values in a scene. Particular attention will be given to composition, edges, and brushwork. There will be some lecture and group discussion, but the classes will consist mostly of one-on-one teaching and coaching, as students are guided in their own individual ways of painting. Students may bring their own photos to use as references, or they may use photos provided by the instructor. A supply list will be sent upon registration.
