one- and two-day workshops for everyone from toddlers to senior citizens. Special
workshops for adults and youngsters enable students to acquire a new skill or create a
unique art project in just a few hours time. Our very popular family workshops allow
parents and children to spend quality time together while collaborating on seasonal art
activities that all will enjoy. No matter how tight your schedule, we've got just the

TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: THE BASICS IN A DAY -

This one-day, ten-hour course will cover the basic concepts of photography
and the difference between film and digital, point and shoot and the digital
single lens reflex. Half the day will be lecture; the second half will be
practical experience in a photo shoot. Bring a digital camera.

This weaving class is project-oriented and will introduce a selection of
off-loom activities that may be created with found materials and that are
appropriate for instruction in the K–12 classroom setting. Students (teachers)
will participate in hands-on activities, creating projects presented during the
course. Handouts will include instructional material for all of the projects
presented. All supplies will be provided.

Expand your color horizons and discover the full potential of soft pastels
as a fine art medium under the guidance of this highly qualified and talented
artist. Instruction will be individualized according to the ability of each
student in the workshop. Bring a sack lunch. A supply list will be provided upon
registration.

RIB-CONSTRUCTED BASKETRY

Experience the art of off-loom weaving as you craft two traditional Appalachian
rib-constructed baskets using natural round and flat reed materials. Students
will learn how to create shapes for a melon or hip basket and an orange basket.
Instruction will also include information on the gathering and preparation of
vines found in the CSRA that are suitable for this creative process. All
materials will be provided.

Walker-Mackenzie Studio, 509 Fifth Street (directly behind the Gertrude Herbert Institute
of Arts administrative building and gallery). The facility includes access for

Unless otherwise noted, students are required to supply some
or all of the materials they will be using. A list of supplies will be mailed upon
registration for such classes. |
