galleries of Ware’s Folly.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: A SENSE OF PLACE 2010
The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is now accepting entries for its
30th annual juried fine art competition, A Sense of Place.
Open to all U.S. artists age 18 and up, the competition accepts drawing,
painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media. Juried
by noted Savannah, Georgia artist Betsy Cain, the competition offers cash awards

Main Gallery
Charleston, SC artist Sharon Lacey, a nationally recognized oil painter, is
known for her particular emphasis on the human figure. She typically begins with
no preconceived idea or preliminary sketch, preferring to develop imagery
through the process of painting. One layer of paint informs the next until an
image emerges that she recognizes, develops, and seeks to resolve.

CHAD COLE: DEEPER SOUTH: HIDDEN SYMBOLISM IN THE SOUTHERN LANDSCAPE
Creel-Harison Community Art Gallery
Augustan Chad Cole’s work is influenced by the literature, mythologies and
psychological underpinnings of the Southern Gothic. It is a response to subjects
including the works of Flannery O’Connor and William Faulkner, the landscape and
architecture of the Old South and the observable decay of Southern agrarian life
in the modern era.

THE ART BOX SERIES
Led by Anna Susan Boykin, this three-session class is for children ages 2½
to 4 accompanied by a parent or other adult. The stories of the Dr. Seuss
Beginner Books series will be the inspiration for art projects exploring shapes,

INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: THE BASICS IN A DAY
This one-day, ten-hour course taught by Dwain Shaw will introduce the basic
concepts of digital photography through both lecture and hands-on practice.

our downtown Augusta and Columbia County campuses, each one-week camp session

techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture. Sign up for any single

RAOUL PACHECO
Main Gallery
Augusta State University adjunct instructor Raoul Pacheco presents new work
in mixed media ceramics. Known for his highly original style, much of Pacheco’s
art attempts to build a bridge between art and life, giving the viewer just
enough to start them on a journey.

ETHAN BROCK
Creel-Harison Community Art Gallery
With this exhibition Augusta resident Ethan Brock seeks to present a
progressive interactive environment—changing and adapting over its life,
evolving to show the working method and materials used to create the art. The
project is in part an examination of the dichotomy of how art is viewed and an
unveiling of how it is produced.
Reception on June 10, 6–8 p.m., in conjunction with the Raoul Pacheco opening.
