New and continuing students will develop a foundation in observation and
interpretation through a variety of approaches and media. Students will focus on
line, value, and texture while covering a wide range of subject matter as they
work from examples, still-life setups, and photographs using pencil, charcoal,
and colored pencil. Many topics that contribute to establishing or improving
drawing skills will also be included in the instruction. All supplies will be
provided.

DRAWING AND THE MAGIC OF COLOR

Students will focus on the basics of drawing and the use of color. Correct
proportions and strong compositional arrangements will be emphasized.
Exploration of various media will include exercises that enlist individual
emotional response through the effective use of color and marks in drawing. This
course is an excellent preparation for students wishing to progress to a
painting course. A partial supply list will be provided upon registration; the
remaining supplies will be provided by the Institute.

COLOR, LIGHT AND PASTEL

This class will provide students the opportunity to experience the endless
immediate color responses that come from using the soft pastel medium. Exercises
and experiments in color along with demonstrations will stretch the imagination
and make the fingertips itch to paint everything one sees. Students will sharpen
drawing skills as they work from direct observation in the pursuit of the color
quest in order to make work more vibrant. A supply list will be provided upon
registration.
